Reunion: 2017 Festival of Rumi

The Shining Heart Community of Greater Kansas City is holding its Annual Festival of Rumi, a celebration of the 13th century Sufi poet and mystic Jelaluddin Rumi.

Dances of Universal Peace

at 59th & Holmes, KCMO

Join us as we center our class around the words of Rumi set to music. The dances use music and phrases with simple steps to help us attune to his mysticism.
$5 suggested donation

Sufi Salon offers music, poetry and zikr in honor of Jelaluddin Rumi and for the love of God!

Join our special guests Allaudin Ottinger, Nuria Sabato, David Basse, Gerald Trimble, Amory Bottorff, Zahir Orest as well as many other inspired performers as we celebrate the season of Rumi.

Saturday December 9

Turning Class , 4:30 – 5:30 pm
with Murshid Khabir Kitz and Habiba Dollard
Join us as our semazens instruct participants into the meditative turn of the dervish as well as the meanings behind it.
Open to all levels of experience or non-experience.
$10 suggested donation to go to Murshid Khabir.

Catered Meal , 5:30 – 6:30 pm
For the convenience of Turn Class participants, out-of-town visitors, and local folks who love the food of Marwan, the Shining Heart Community is offering a mid-eastern meal. Cost $10 for all those over 10 and no cost to youngsters. If you are interested in sharing such nourishment with your sisters and brothers, email Marty Amin Kraft at by Friday evening Dec 9th. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

The main event of the festival features music, dance, zikr, and the poetry of Rumi. We are honored once again to have our semazens do the mediative turn during zikr.

Snack-luck is part of evening celebration. Bring something sweet.

Celebration of Universal Peace 11:00
Join us at Body and Soul Yoga Studio
at 59th & Holmes, KCMO
In rememberance of the worlds' religion and prophets who have held aloft the light of love and peace.

Facilitated by Karima Gita Erickson and Batina Hinds, this sacred ceremony honors all faiths, known and unknown. Siraj Khabir Kitz will deliver the sermon.

The celebration will include a brief candle lighting ceremony, a brief mediative message, and the Dances of Universal Peace. All are Welcome!

Community Feast's format has changed.
After Universal Worship concludes about 12:30, we will migrate to Taj Mahal restaurant at 75th and Wornall. We have reserved the back room and they have a wonderful menu. Join us please! No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Meals can be ordered and there is a $12.95 buffet.
